By the way, it's on the 'todo' list so that you can alter someones karma, and it doesn't require a page reload to take effect.
Actually, at the moment, if you're adding many karmas to somone, I don't know if you realise, but you don't actually have to wait for it to reload each time!
If you press the 'add karma' button, then just before the page is about to clear and reload, press it again, and continue as long as required... You basically just time it so that your 'add karma' request has gotten through to the server, (which is normally less than a second after pressing the button), but click it again before the server has a chance to respond with the updated page... hence causing a new 'add karma' request to be sent, and a new updated page to come back.. which again you interrupt before it's sent back etc.etc. for as long as you want. If you time it right, you can generally add 10 or so karmas in about 5 seconds... If you press the button again too early, no worries, it just means the original click was missed... You just have to get used to the timing
Easier to actually do that describe.. Oh, and same works of course with taking karma off |
still takes me a frickin' year! |

Hey, when I coded this, I made it all ADMIN configurable, so you can grovel to Rav and Marie too!
By the way, every night, everyones karma-to-give is increased by a few points, until it hits a maximum, at which point it is no longer given a nightly increase.
Additionally, you earn some karma-to-give when you get positive karma, and you lose some karma-to-give when you receive negative karma.
Current BGB settings (in admin -> General Admin -> Configuration Panel):
| Code: |
Nightly karma-to-give award.
The number of karma-to-give points to award each user nightly (0 to 10)1.5 (Default: 1.5)
Nightly karma-to-give ceiling.
When a users karma-to-give reaches this amount, they no longer get nightly karma added. (0 to 100)10 (Default: 10)
Karma-to-give awarded on receiving positive karma.
How many karma-to-give points are awarded when a user receives a postive karma point. (0.0 to 0.9)
This figure is less than one, to stop people karmaing each other back and fore (which would increase their karma-to-give points!)0.5 (Default: 0.5)
Karma-to-give taken off on receiving negative karma.
How many karma-to-give points are taken off when a user receives a negative karma point. (0.0 to 0.9)0 (Default: 0)
|
So, either get Rav/Marie to tweak these, or actually SPEND yer karma-to-give, and you'll see it go up overnight (at midnight uk time)
You don't see yer karma-to-give go up, 'cos you are hoarding it!
Oh, and also, for admin -> admin panel -> user admin -> management
In there, you can set a particular users karma-to-give (and karma(!) ) to any value you like.
So, if you think the values should be tweaked, make your suggestions here. I'm not an admin of this board, so unless it's a code
tweak, and particularly if it's an admin-function, you need to ask them instead |
But I was not talking to you honey
Bea

Hey Jamie,
I have now the ability to gove out lots of karma... but it seems that my karma earning capacity is proportionally now lessened... for example, if I give away 10% of my karma, I used to gain 10% back overnight... now it is about .02% overnight and it seems that although it looks like I can be very generous with the Karma, I can't be as generous as I would like to be because the regeneration is proportionally slower. Can we fix that or should I just suck it up and consider it a one time gift to have more to give?
Thanksmuch!! |

Karma is only changed when people give or take away karma.
KARMA-POINTS-TO-GIVE I assume you mean (yes, we need a new name for one these!).
Anyway, the karma-points-to-give go up only in 2 ways (ignoring admin override!)
Everytime you get given karma, you also get 0.5 karma-to-give-points.
Nightly, you get 1.5karma points-to-give added, but ONLY if your karma-points-to-give are below 10. If they are above 10, the nightly increase has no effect.
So, the only increases you are seeing now are simply due to points based on karma granted to you.
By the way, these nightly values (i.e. amount added, and maximum amount) along with the amount-given when you receive a karma are all admin configurable, so if you think it should be changed, ask one of the admins...
I'm a 'code admin' but no longer a 'policy admin'.. Who are the admins these days ? I dunno.. Jouni, Rav, Marie, Todge ? |
